GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK
The School Clinic Assistant will work under the direct supervision of the School Nurse and Principal, with oversight by the School Division Nurse Coordinator.
The School Clinic Assistant provides supportive health services to students, performs clerical tasks, and serves as a communicator between the school nurse and parents.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Assist in maintaining a school health record for each student to include vision and hearing screening, new enrollee screening and follow through with referrals of such.
Receive forms and input data into student records a timely manner as directed by the school nurse for clinic visits, medicine usage, student physicals, immunizations, and information from health care providers
Assist with maintaining up to date clinic supplies; keep student medications safe and in a locked cabinet; maintain emergency stock of epi-pens and asthma inhalers.
Follow policies and procedures in regards to Coronavirus mitigation plan.
Will assist other schools in clinic needs when required.
Communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents and staff in stressful circumstances.
Learn and use student database software and input data as required.
Comply with all general School Board policies and regulations, and administrative directives.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Demonstrate ability to work cooperatively with the school nurse, and merit confidence and respect of staff, students, and parents.
Demonstrate appropriate use of written and verbal communication in English.
Understanding of Spanish is preferred.
Demonstrate effective time management and organization.
Demonstrate knowledge of communicable disease prevention hygiene and sanitation protocols.
Demonstrate knowledge of blood-borne pathogen infection prevention protocols.
Competent in dispensing correct dosages of medications, taking temperature readings, performing allergy, asthma, and diabetes treatment under the direction of the School Nurse.
Demonstrate ability to adhere to confidentiality in accordance with federal and state laws, and School Board policies.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Current certification in CPR, First Aid, and AED is required.
At least one year experience working in a medical or emergency services setting required.
Preference for person with a certification as Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Certified Medical Assistant, or Certified Nursing Assistant.
Ongoing evidence of mental and physical competence to perform assigned responsibilities may be required from a qualified healthcare provider.
An applicant with prior experience with Culpeper County Public Schools must have had a performance evaluation rating acceptable to CCPS.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS
Duties performed typically in the central office and throughout the division.
Frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting, up to approximately 40 pounds, and occasional lifting of equipment weighing up to approximately 50 pounds may be required.
Other limited physical activities are required.
Travel to schools throughout the division and central office maybe required.
Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
Scrubs or lab coat, and proper shoes for a health care setting are required.
Regular contact with staff members, administrators, and parents is required.
Contact with parents by phone and in person is necessary.
Timely and regular attendance is an expectation of performance for all CCPS employees.
To ensure adequate staffing, positive employee morale, and to meet expected productivity standards throughout the organization, employees will be held accountable for adhering to their workplace schedule.
EVALUATION
The supervisor will evaluate performance on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities.
