is seeking an experienced part-time optometric technician to cover our office in Fredericksburg, VA.
This job requires a highly reliable person who is capable of efficient, independent work.
Job Summary: The Optometric Technician provides support to our Optometrists during day-to-day office operations Job Classification: Hourly, Full-Time or Part-Time, non-exempt status, hours may fluctuate due to business needs up to 30 hours per week maximum.
A regular day would be 8:30am to 6:30pm with a one hour unpaid lunch.
Pay: Starting from $13.
00 per hour (less taxes and withholdings), higher rates considered depending on experience Commissions: Retinal photography and Visual Field conversion commission based on reaching and exceeding Company goals and metrics.
Optometric Technician Job Duties: Duties include, but are not limited to: Opening and setting up Optometry office prior to start of business each day; ensuring the office and patient lanes are clean and presentable, all equipment and computers are turned on and operational, all equipment is clean and sanitized as needed.
Greeting and interacting with all patients in a caring and friendly manner, treating all with respect and professionalism, in person and over the phone.
Ensure all Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) rules and regulations are followed.
Ensure all entry paperwork is completed in full and that required documents are collected and scanned into patient records system Reviewing paperwork for any special needs or pertinent information for the Optometrist to be aware of and communicating as such.
Assisting Optometrist by conducting pre-screening entrance examinations on all patients, including but not limited to visual acuities, auto-refraction, non-contact tonometry, retinal imaging, visual field perimetry, neutralizing patient’s current/previous eyewear.
Assisting Optometrist with any other duties as assigned, including but not limited to; administering dilation drops, setting phoropter, contact lens insertion and removal training and education.
Understanding of ocular terminology and differing patient visits.
Understanding of the benefits to the patient and the “why” behind our services, testing and recommended additional diagnostic examinations, and the ability to explain the different pre-screening and diagnostic tests to the patients in a simple, easy to understand way.
Understanding of vision and medical insurance coverage.
Promote retinal photography and visual field screening to patients using concise, informative, and assumptive pitches.
Meet or exceed and maintain company standards in retinal imaging and visual field screening conversion percentages.
Able to discuss and answer patient questions regarding services or questions about their prescription.
Perform handoffs of patient to host store retail staff.
Ensure accuracy when inputting data to avoid errors in insurance billing.
Secure and responsible handling of cash, including accepting patient payments, creating bank deposits and safe delivery of deposits to bank on a daily basis.
Any and all other duties as required by Operations Manager or Optometrist.
Qualifications and Skills Skills: Computer skills are essential (use of Compulink Electronic Medical Records system would be ideal but not required as full training will be given.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Polite and professional manner when dealing with patients, staff and Optometrists.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Self-motivated accompanied by the ability to multi-task and establish effective priorities.
Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both professional and non-professional, co-workers, management personnel, the public and others.
Listens well and retains instructions; accepts constructive feedback from supervisor.
Displays a consistent attendance track record and prompt arrival to work.
Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED.
Certifications in Optometric Technician or Optometric Support roles are a plus but not essential.
3+ years of experience in an Optometry or Ophthalmology work setting.
Must be proficient in Windows, Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
Eligible to work in the US.
Proficiency with the English language.
As this position requires dealing with Protected Health Information (PHI) and the handling of cash, favorable results of a background check are required before the hiring process can be completed.
