*Peer Recovery Specialist-Community Response*
*Encompass Community Supports, formerly known as Rappahannock Rapidan Community Services (RRCS*) is hiring a *Peer Recovery Specialist-Community Response *to work in our Culpeper office.
Encompass Community Supports is a Virginia State community services organization that improves the quality of life in Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, Orange, and Rappahannock Counties by providing comprehensive mental health, substance use, developmental disability, housing, children’s and aging services.

*Position Information:* Type – Full Time, Non-exempt, Essential Staff Location – Mobile Position, Madison, Orange, Rappahannock, Fauquier, and Culpeper Counties Work Schedule – Shift Work: Currently 3pm to 11pm.
On-Call, Holidays, and Weekend Availability needed.
*Peer Recovery Specialist – Community Response* The Peer Recovery Specialist in the Co-Response Programs works with local Law Enforcement Agencies and/or behavioral health professionals to respond to calls in the community that involve individuals experiencing Behavioral Health emergencies.
*GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:* Peer Recovery Specialists and Family Support Partners provide non-clinical, person-centered, strengths based, wellness focused, and trauma-informed support while helping to ensure the person’s recovery, resiliency, and wellness plan reveals the needs and preferences of the person being served to complete their measurable and personalized goals.
Peer Recovery Specialists serve adults with behavioral health challenges.
Family Support Partners serve parent peers and family members who provide support to parents and children who experience behavioral health challenges.
Work is performed under regular supervision.
*KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:* All knowledge, skills, and abilities performed in a manner that aligns with the principles of recovery-oriented, person-centered, non-coercive, trauma-informed, and relationship-focused.
Current body of mental health and substance use disorder knowledge.
Recovery process – promoting services, supports, and strategies.
Crisis Intervention basics.
Values for the role of Peer Recovery Specialist.
Basic principles related to health and wellness.
Stage appropriate pathways in recovery support.
Ethics and boundaries.
Cultural sensitivity and practice.
Trauma and its impact on recovery.
Community resources.
Delivering peer services within agencies and organizations.
Knowledge surrounding the operation and care of computer equipment and cellular devices; knowledge of MS Office, to include Word, Excel and Teams; knowledge of other video-conferencing software.
*EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:* *Required – * High School diploma or equivalent; One year of personal experience living in recovery with a mental health/substance use challenge or the family member of an individual with one year living in recovery with a mental health/substance use challenge.
*Preferred-* Successful completion of a DBHDS approved peer recovery specialist training program and/or Virginia Certified Peer Recovery Specialist and/or Certified WRAP (Wellness and Recovery Action Plan) facilitator and/or certified SMART (Self-Management and Recovery Training) Recovery facilitator.
*PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:* This work requires moderate physical effort working regularly with lightweight materials and occasionally with heavy weight materials (over 60 pounds); working conditions are somewhat disagreeable due to exposure to one or more disagreeable elements; work involves frequent exposure to hazards where lost-time accidents are definitely possible, considerable mental effort and stress may be involved which could result in discomfort and ineffectiveness.
The worker may be exposed to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
Core responsibilities are not able to be performed through tele-work.
The position is largely involved in the community and will require frequent travel within the catchment area.
*SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:* Passing a Criminal Justice Information Services Background Check is a requirement for this position.
*Valid Virginia driver’s license*; attends training and maintains certifications as required by the Agency and regulatory guidelines.
Attendance at all mandatory staff development and training expected.
Employment with Encompass Community Supports is contingent upon the successful completion of our background check process.
