The county is 348 sq.
miles and has a large portfolio of aquatic facilities to include 2 indoor aquatic centers, 2 waterparks and 4 community swimming pools.
This position will oversee the operational components and ensure consistency of EIGHT aquatic facilities, also be responsible for the daily oversight of a brand new Catharpin splashpad expected to open in 2025.

Additionally, this position will:
Ensure operational consistencies for the department’s aquatics division.
Provide oversight of over 2 million gallons of water while operational compliance and safety.
Conduct pool operator training and oversight.
Recruit, hire and train approximately 430 lifeguards each year and approximately 70 pool operators with assistance from other team members for the aquatic department.
Assist department-wide Aquatic Manager in providing input and specification in aquatic projects, equipment purchases and capital planning.
Ensure standardization of pool operator training, creation and/or regular updating of standard operating procedures, regular internal audits of pool operations and chemical handling practices, quality control, preventative maintenances of aquatic chemical control and feed systems and compliance with all national, state and local code/environmental regulations.
Serve as a liaison with many interdepartmental support work teams such as facility maintenance, project and planning teams.
Report to the Aquatics Manager, have one full-time direct report, and approximately 75 seasonal indirect reports.
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or GED and 5 years of aquatic operation experience.
Preferences:
The ideal candidate should have:
A valid Ellis & Associates Lifeguard Instructor License.
CPO or AFO instructor level certification is a plus.
Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation, Business Management/Administration or related field.
5+ years supervisory experience.
Prior experience conducting lifeguard training programs.
Prior experience in leading, training and aquatic site operations to include pump room oversight and management.
Prior experience in oversight of multiple aquatic facilities simultaneously.
Work Schedule:
Work hours will vary from 8-5 M-F in the off season (typically October – February) to longer hours as the seasonal pools near and enter the operating season (typically March-September) which will include nights, weekends and holidays as needed to ensure the pools are ready to open and running normally.
This position will provide rotating weekend on-call support (1-2 times/month) to two of our indoor aquatic facilities (September – May).
This position is classified as exempt and can adjust hours to meet operational needs.
A PORTION OF ON-CALL TIME IS SUBJECT TO ADDITIONAL COMPENSATION.
Special Requirements:
The Department of Parks and Recreation conducts DMV record checks on all licensed employees and criminal background checks on all hires 18 years and older.
Fingerprinting will be required.
Incumbent will operate a county owned vehicle or personal vehicle for business, valid driver’s license is required.
Starting Salary Range: $72,000 to $80,000.
