GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK:
Under general supervision of the Recreation Programmer, works as a group fitness instructor or personal trainer for Town of Warrenton Parks and Recreation Department facilities and/or events.
Instructors are responsible for instructing and promoting all fitness events, activities, and programs year-round.
The position requires movement about facilities, requiring the exertion of up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Work requires reaching, fingering, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of machines, and determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work; on occasion, may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
Schedule varies and will include early morning, nights, and weekends to meet facility needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:
1.
Instructs and assists with the group fitness class programs.
Ability to lead classes and demonstrate moves and techniques;

Maintains accurate attendance records for all classes;
3.
Issues and ensures the return of program equipment and supplies to their stored location;
4.
Designs and conducts activities that provide an opportunity to learn and develop skills and conditioning;
5.
Maintains continuous watch on program participants to ensure safety and prevent injury;
6.
Responds quickly to all emergency situations;
7.
Promotes a positive and courteous environment that fosters learning, personal growth, and enjoyment;
8.
Works cooperatively with Recreation Programmer to promote and advertise all fitness events, activities, and programs.
Assists in the planning, production, and distribution of program promotional literature;
9.
Attends in-service training sessions as assigned;
10.
Assists with Parks and Recreation supported events, as assigned by supervisor;
11.
Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
General knowledge of fitness techniques; ability to create tailored fitness and/or wellness plans for individuals or groups; ability to maintain order among participants; ability to instruct participants with different learning styles; ability to develop and maintain effective professional relationships with fitness participants; excellent internal and external customer service; ability to always present a professional appearance and attitude; effective communication skills; ability to follow written and verbal instructions; ability to be organized.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Experience in teaching individual and group fitness programs.
Must maintain at least one national level of certification in a fitness discipline.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess satisfactory results of a criminal history background check and child protective services check.
Must have current CPR and First Aid Certifications.
Must be 18 years or older.
