Introduction
Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism (DPRT)
Recreation Services is a multi-disciplinary team of more than 230 FTE’s (full time equivalent) within DPRT and is comprised of multiple work units to include:
Indoor and outdoor swimming pools, two large waterparks
Parks and community centers
Sports Services
Children’s programs that include a large summer camp offering
Business Services to include program registration, facility reservations and other associated tasks
Sports Instructors must have experience and knowledge to be able to teach others.
They must be excited to share their sport with children and have the ability to demonstrate a high level of competence and care for the program and its participants.
Our Instructors work independently and are responsible for activity planning, supervision of children, participant safety, customer service, and providing a quality experience to those enrolled in the program.
The successful candidate will possess the following traits:
The willingness to explore and follow best practices;
Have the ability to work indoors and outdoor.
Experience with teach sports;
Experience with supervising children;
Experience with creating a curriculum or learning plan for sports.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
8th grade education and 0-12 months of related experience (*State mandates require a high school diploma or G.
E.
D for specific licensed program positions).
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be at least 16 or 18 years old depending on position; Lifeguard, First Aid and/or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification may be required depending on position; May require Federal or State background check.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, and intense noises.
