25 Status: Accepting Applications Job Description The Library Assistant position will work primarily in children's programs located at the Bowling Green and Ladysmith branches.
This position works under the general direction of the Library Branch Manager and will assist with administrative and technical work at the circulation desks and provide customer service to all library patrons as needed.
Job Responsibilities Prepares children's library program materials and implement program activities Works the circulation desk, checks books in and out, answers the phone and questions at the desk, including light reference questions Assist patrons with reader's advisory service and recommendation for books Assist patrons with use of computers, including printing documents, email use and basic Microsoft systems; performs troubleshooting on library computers and equipment Shelves books, ensuring the accurate placement and weeding books from shelves Registers patrons in library programs and help find books and materials they seek; performs light research or directs them to the branch Manager Places books on hold, assist with interlibrary loan programs; assist with displays on shelves and for various programs, assists with public relations pieces for program or entering information on social media Assists with genealogical work Issues overdue notices; collects money for fines Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Library Assistant I - High School Diploma or GED equivalent Coursework in Library and Information Science or at least one (1) year of experience in a library setting At least one (1) year of customer service and/or public service experience A working knowledge of computers and other standard office equipment The ability to work cooperatively with others, including children Dependability Physical Requirements Ability to lift materials from over head and from the floor.
Approximately 25lbs on an occasional basis Ability to see, hear, speak, stand, sit, walk, bend, stoop, reach, pull and push on a regular basis
