Job Title: Systems Engineer Location: Department of Technology Systems Pay Grade: Administrative and Professional Scale Grade A06 Work Calendar: All 12 Month Employee FLSA Status: Exempt GENERAL PURPOSE Under the supervision of the Director of Technology Systems, the Systems Engineer serves as a member of the engineering team responsible for the design, implementation, and support of information technology networks, systems, and services for Stafford County Public Schools.
MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Maintain and support critical information technology systems Manage the full life cycle of technology systems, including network infrastructure, servers, hosted services, and endpoint devices.
Troubleshoot technology issues in a multi-tier support environment, including support of school based and centralized computer and network technicians.
Communicate and follow-up with affected staff, support vendors, and coordinate resources to accomplish customer service goals.
Provide high-level tech support as needed Audit security practices and perform computer forensics as needed.
Design and implement IT systems in support of business and instructional initiatives Research technical requirements of proposed technologies for suitability with existing systems and services.
Interface with staff and vendors to ensure successful completion of technology projects.
Create and maintain documentation for the implementation, administration, and support of division technology.
Provide training for division technology support staff when required.
Maintain awareness and keep division technology leadership informed of changes and improvements available in relevant technologies.
Support and demonstrate core values of Stafford Schools Engage in ongoing professional development to expand breadth and depth of mastery of relevant technologies.
Respond to written and oral requests for information promptly and thoroughly.
Maintain a clean, neat appearance, appropriate to position.
Maintain a record of appropriate attendance and punctuality.

Work in close harmony with colleagues, supervisors, and co-workers.
Comply with all District and School policies and regulations, including but not limited to guidelines for confidentiality.
Perform other related duties as required/assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or related field, or a combination of engineer-level industry certifications and comparable job experience.
Industry certifications should include current technologies with significant depth of knowledge in enterprise-level implementations of end user systems, servers, and networks.
Demonstrated experience designing and managing large environments in one or more of the following areas: Endpoint protection Advanced routing and switching Wireless LAN design Server operating systems (Windows Server, Linux) Server virtualization (VMware, Nutanix) Device management systems (SCCM, Intune, Jamf) Firewalls and web filters KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge TCP/IP networking Server hardware and network infrastructure Server and desktop operating systems IT security best practices and technologies Skills Administration and implementation of cloud-hosted and on-prem systems and applications Design, configuration, and tuning of physical and virtualized servers, storage, and networks Troubleshooting complex IT systems across all OSI model layers Abilities Create and maintain technical documentation Effectively communicate with individuals across all levels of technical proficiency Work cooperatively in a team environment to meet goals Organize and perform work independently Meet deadlines for all work even when working on multiple projects Show sustained effort and enthusiasm in quality and quantity of work WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Work environment is primarily inside, with moderate noise, temperatures that are moderate, and no exposure to chemicals or other negative air quality elements.
The work is light work, requiring exertion of up to 20 pounds of force to move or lift objects.
